GRAMMAR SLAMMER--Slam your Grammar Agony with
The Program that answers the questions the Grammar Checkers can't
Word Perfect for Windows Edition
GRAMMAR SLAMMER answers those questions that the Grammar Checkers
can't! GRAMMAR SLAMMER helps you in your writing and grammar the
simplest way known to Windows« Word Processor users. Grammar
Checkers are helpful, but they are limited. They miss things and
often ask you questions you can't answer. ("Do you want a comma
here?"--"How should I know?" you reply.) Disk-based grammar
books can help, but they are cumbersome to use. GRAMMAR SLAMMER,
on the other hand, supplements the Grammar Checker by providing
answers in a format that you already know how to use--the Windows
Help File! One click on a Word Processor Macro and it pops up,
ready to go! No office or computer which depends on word processors
should be without it!
How to Install GRAMMAR SLAMMER to Word Perfect for Windows
The main program you need is GRAMDEMO.HLP, the GRAMMAR SLAMMER demonstration
or evaluation program. If after using this for a thirty day evaluation
period, if you decide to continue using the program, then you should
obtain a registered copy.
Create a new directory C:\GRAMSLAM. Copy the file GRAMDEMO.HLP to this new
directory. If you want to copy GRAMDEMO to another drive or directory, you
will have to change the command in the GRAMDEMO.WCM macro to reflect this
change.
You may also want to copy the program icon, GRAMSLAM.ICO, to this directory
or to the directory you normally keep your icons in. You may also want to
copy the button graphic GSWP4W.BMP to this directory or the directory where
you keep other Word Perfect button graphics.
Copy the file GRAMDEMO.WCM to directory where you keep your Word Perfect
Macros. This is normally WP4WIN/MACROS, but it may vary.
You are now set to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER from your Word Perfect for Windows
program.
Running GRAMMAR SLAMMER from Word Perfect for Windows
Running the macro to launch GRAMMAR SLAMMER is called "playing" the macro.
Choose "Macros" from the "Tools" Menu, then choose "Play." Enter the
Macro name in the box (GRAMDEMO.WCM). If you do not recall the name, click
"List" (or press the F4 key) and a list of names will appear, highlight
the correct name and click on "OK." Click on the "Play" button.
To Run GRAMMAR SLAMMER you have six choices: 1) Run it from
the "Play | Macro" routine from the menu, 2) Add it to the Word Perfect
Menu and then click on the menu choice when you want to run it,
3) Run it from a text-based toolbar in Word Perfect for Windows.
4) Add the GSWP4W.BMP to the toolbar and then click on the
Grammar Slammar icon when you want it to appear, 5) Assign
a "shortcut key" to the GRAMMAR SLAMMER macro and use that
key combination to get GRAMMAR SLAMMER to run, or 6) Run it from a regular
Windows icon in one of the Program Manager Windows.
Adding GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Word Perfect for Windows Menu
To add GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Word Perfect for Windows Menu do the following.
Click on the "Tools" Menu Choice and then "Macros." Choose "Insert" to open
the "Select Macro" dialog box. Then type in the macro name (GRAMDEMO.WCM).
If you are not sure of the macro name, click on the "List" button
(or press the F4 key), highlight the correct macro, and choose "OK."
This closes the second dialog box. Click on the remaining "OK" button.
Now check your "Macros" menu under "Tools." You will see a listing for
GRAMDEMO. You may start GRAMMAR SLAMMER now by clicking on that menu choice
at any time.
Adding GRAMMAR SLAMMER to a Word Perfect for Windows Toolbar
Once the GRAMDEMO.WCM file is in the \MACROS directory, you may add GRAMMAR
SLAMMER to one of the Word Perfect Button Bars. First, click the RIGHT
mouse button on the button bar and then choose "Preferences." Select the
Button Bar which you want to add GRAMMAR SLAMMER to, and then choose "Edit."
Select "Play a Macro" and then choose the macro name. (As above, this can
be done by writing in the name or selecting from the "List" button or pressing
the F4 key). A new button should be created. You may want to drag a separator
bar into position, if necessary.
Customizing a Toolbar Button for GRAMMAR SLAMMER
Once you have the toolbar button in position, you will probably want to
change the wording, add words to the help prompt, and add the GRAMMAR
SLAMMER graphic to the button. If you want to add the GSWP4W.BMP
graphic to the button, first switch into Windows Paint or Paintbrush
or other bitmap editor. Open the GSWP4W.BMP file. Copy the entire image.
This copies the image in correct proportion to the Clipboard. Now exit
the bitmap editor and return to Word Perfect for Windows.
Click the right mouse button on the button bar and choose "Preferences."
Select the button bar title and choose "Edit." Double-click on the button
that you want to edit. Now you may type in the new button label. "GRAMMAR
SLAMMER" may be a little long for most buttons; "Gram Slam" or "Grammar"
fit nicely. You may also type in the new help prompt--"Grammar Slammer
Help File" or something like that would work well.
To add the GRAMMAR SLAMMER bitmap picture (now loaded in the Clipboard),
Select "Draw" or "Image Edit" and dialog box with a large picture of the
button image will appear. Select the "Paste" option and the GRAMMAR
SLAMMER picture should appear on the Word Perfect button editor. Choose "OK."
Choose "Close" to close the button bar editing session. Now you should be
able to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER by clicking the button on the button bar.
Choosing a Keystroke to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER
It is also possible to get GRAMMAR SLAMMER to run by pressing a combination
of keys. To add a "Hot Key" combination to Word Perfect for Windows, choose
the "File" menu, then "Preferences," then double-click "Keyboard." Choose
"Create" and enter a Keyboard Definition Name. "Grammar Slammer" would be
appropriate. Next, select a key combination. We recommend Shift-Alt-G or
Alt-G-S. It may be better to use a key combination that is not currently
assigned. Next, select "Play a Macro," choose "Assign a Macro," enter
the path and name (probably GRAMDEMO.WCM) or use the "List" or F4 key
option to select the macro name; and then when the macro name has been
entered, choose "Select." Now GRAMMAR SLAMMER will appear whenever you
press the selected key combination.
You may want to check your Word Perfect for Windows manual or help file for
key combinations already in use by Word Perfect to avoid removing another
function you might want to keep.
Adding GRAMMAR SLAMMER to the Windows Program Manager
If you want to be able to run GRAMMAR SLAMMER from a Window apart from
the Word Processor Macro command, you must install the program into your
Windows Program Manager. Click once on any program in the Window you want
to place GRAMMAR SLAMMER in. Click on the "File" Menu Option then the
"New" Menu Option. Now a dialog box appears. Fill in the "Program Name"
box with the name of the program, i.e. "Grammar Slammer Demo." For the
"Command Line" box write in "C:\GRAMSLAM\GRAMDEMO.HLP." (Do not
add the quotation marks or final period. Name the correct directory if
you installed GRAMDEMO.HLP in a directory other than C:\GRAMSLAM.) The
Working directory is "C:\GRAMSLAM" unless you installed the program in
another directory. Add a "Short Key" if you want. Then click on the
"OK" button. The program is now installed in the Window with the standard
Question Mark as an icon. For a more elegant icon, install the
GRAMSLAM.ICO file in either the same directory as GRAMMAR SLAMMER or
the directory where you keep your icons. Click on the "File" Menu Option,
then the "Properties" option. This brings up a dialog box with a number
of buttons including on which says "Change Icon." Click on that button
and add the directory and filename of the GRAMSLAM.ICO file--for
example "C:\GRAMSLAM\GRAMSLAM.ICO," or whatever directory you put the
GRAMSLAM.ICO file in. Click on "OK" and now the regular GRAMMAR SLAMMER
icon is in place in a Window.
